Privacy policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026 (added product events disclosure)
Short version: this site is a static publication. We don’t run ads, we don’t set tracking cookies, we don’t have user accounts, and we don’t sell anything , including data.
What we collect
- Nothing directly. The site has no sign-up, no comments, no cookies set by us, and no third-party advertising or social trackers.
- Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which (like any web host) processes standard server logs. IP address, user agent, requested page, to deliver and secure the site. See Vercel’s privacy policy for how they handle that data.
If you submit a tip
The tip form opens an email in your own mail client, nothing is transmitted to us until you press send. If you email us, we’ll have your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to evaluate and verify the tip, we don’t add you to any list, and we treat requests for confidentiality seriously. If you want a submission deleted, ask and we’ll delete the correspondence.
Links to GOAT Music and other sites
This site is part of the GOAT Music network - GOAT is our own product, and links to it include referral tags (UTM parameters) so we can see that a visit came from this site. Those tags contain no personal information. GOAT Music and any other external sites we link to (court records, news outlets, archives) have their own privacy policies; this one covers only fuckrecordlabels.com.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics service. It counts aggregate page views and visitors using an anonymized hash - it sets no cookies, stores no personal identifiers, and does not track you across other sites. We use these counts only to understand which tools and articles help people, so we can make more of them. See Vercel’s analytics privacy documentation for details.
Product events
When you interact with the tools on this site (completing the royalty audit, checking off a step in the Indie Formula, generating a split sheet or release plan, analyzing a contract clause, using the royalty calculator, or opening the tip form), the site records a brief anonymous event: what action was taken and which page it happened on. No identifier of any kind is attached. No cookies are set, no IP address is stored by us, and nothing in local storage is read for this purpose. These events are logged as plain text in Vercel’s server logs (subject to Vercel’s own retention limits) and, if the plan supports it, in Vercel Analytics custom events. We use them only to understand which tools are actually useful so we can improve them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR, CCPA, and similar), you may have rights to access or delete personal data. Since we hold essentially none, at most, email correspondence you sent us, exercising them is simple: email us via the tip line and we’ll handle it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date above. Material changes (like adding analytics) will be noted explicitly.
